Shortly after its 1990 launch, NASA's crown jewel, intended to mend NASA's tarnished image from the Challenger explosion, was a $1.7 billion piece of orbiting junk. TOPIC: "Geo-Location"; SPEAKER: Mr. Mike Grabbe, L-3 Communications; PLACE: Holiday Inn Select-Richardson, 1655 N. Central Expressway; PROGRAM: This talk will be a brief non-mathematical overview of ground target geo-location. Geo-location is the process of locating a stationary signal source on the earth’s surface and is one of the primary missions of military surveillance aircraft. The topics to be covered include geo-location system architecture, measurement inputs, error sources, algorithms, performance metrics and analysis, and the effects of aircraft-target geometry. The material to be presented, along with additional information on specific aircraft systems, is used for an internal training course at L-3 Communications.

The Dallas Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a professional organization of electrical, electronic, and computer engineers in the greater Dallas area. It organizes technical, educational, and scientific meetings providing professional benefits to its members while contributing towards progress in the field. Approximately 6000 IEEE local members are served by the Section and its more than 20 IEEE professional Society chapters.

Monthly Section and Chapter Meetings are designed for general technical and professional interests. The section newsletter runs monthly and publishes upcoming events and special activities, and the monthly event calendar is published electronically each month on this website.

Interested IEEE members are invited to become active in the Dallas Section and its Society Chapters. All interested members are welcome to attend any of the Section and Chapter meetings or local seminars.
